A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life away from worry.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
