Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for a series of unforgettable images worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her US tour following her marriage.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry laments the passing to a authentic original whose legacy on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
