Cameron Norrie Calls 'Greatest Triumph' After Roaring Back from Behind to Defeat Carlos Alcaraz in the Paris Masters

Cameron Norrie achieved the most important win of his professional journey by rebounding from a early deficit to overcome top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the Paris Masters.

While he had previously overcome Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this victory marks Norrie's first ever win over a sitting world number one.

"Massive. Incredibly significant for me," stated Norrie, who joins as the newest UK male player in the record books to defeat a world No 1. "Coming back from a physical setback last year, I was defeated in the first round of qualifying rounds here. I just tried to enjoy my performance in the second half of the year. To secure a victory like this, it's the biggest win of my career, my maiden triumph over the top player and probably the strongest athlete in the world right now."

The British player, seeded 31st in the world, also halted Alcaraz's dominant streak of nine straight final appearances and 17 successive premier event wins, which was the best series of outcomes in the Spanish star's young career.

The top seed appeared to be moving confidently to a win at the start as he eased in the opening set. Yet, the British contender steadily battled back into the match by delivering with greater precision and dragging the Spaniard into lengthy, grueling points. His unceasing consistency and reliability steadily left its mark.

During large parts of the match, Alcaraz performed well on serve but he found it challenging to get his timing right on his baseline shots. The young star looked notably uneasy executing his primary weapon, which has been the best shot in the game for most of this season, haemorrhaging 29 forehand miscues and a total of 54 mistakes. Opposing him, the British player gave Alcaraz so few mistakes, keeping up his reliability, athleticism and depth all match while serving efficiently and selecting opportunities to move forward and attack well.

Following battling for months due to a serious left forearm injury and difficulties with his game, Norrie dropped as far down as 91st globally this year. Alcaraz, despite his remarkable achievements, is still hasn't master how to produce his top form on indoor courts.
