Destructive Storm Approaches Vietnam After Causing a Minimum of 114 Fatalities in Philippines
Prior to making landfall in Vietnam, Kalmaegi resulted in catastrophic damage in the Philippines - with no fewer than 114 fatalities.
Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has proclaimed a disaster situation - which is triggered by mass casualty, extensive property destruction, and interruption of income sources and everyday existence for people in the affected areas.
The weather system, called in the region Tino, ripped through the densely inhabited island of Cebu, flooding complete communities and carrying vehicles down roads.
Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated, while some are sheltering in emergency shelters.

Rescue teams have started operations as affected citizens take cover in designated safe areas.
The magnitude of this calamity has resulted in massive emergency response across the devastated zones.

Kalmaegi has forced the relocation of more than 400,000 people in the Philippines.
