Outrage Surges as Trump's Post on Director Rob Reiner Spurs Widespread Criticism

Personalities from both sides of the political divide and the Hollywood industry are uniting to denounce Donald Trump for his statements in the wake of the shocking deaths of acclaimed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Post

After the couple were found dead at their Los Angeles home, Trump posted on social media to label the late director as "tortured and suffering". The post, he claimed Reiner's demise was "because of the hostility he caused others through his enormous, unyielding, and incurable condition with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to self-praise, juxtaposing Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Law Enforcement Update and Arrest

Police have since confirmed the detention of the Reiners' adult son, Nick, on suspicion of homicide in relation to the incident. It is reported his bail was established at a substantial amount.

A Wave of Criticism from Public Figures

The reaction to Trump's post was immediate and scathing.

This is a appalling and despicable statement,ā€ said public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, similarly criticized the statements. Goldberg referenced prior comments from Trump about the killing of an activist, demanding, "Do you have no shame? Can you get any lower?"

California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly stated, "He is a disturbed man."

Mirroring this sentiment, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "What a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "Trump has just lost it. Now saying the Reiners brought on their own demise because they didn’t support him. Deeply disturbing."

Rebuke from Within Political Ranks

Some Republican lawmakers also expressed dismay.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about politics or rivals". Greene also alluded to struggles with addiction and psychological well-being within families.

Another Republican congressman, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's remarks "unacceptable and disgraceful" considering the circumstances. He openly dared members in his political party to justify the comments.

Reiner's History and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was consistently a vocal detractor of Donald Trump. In a past interview, he stated Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the presidency. He had also warned about the dangers of autocracy if Trump be reelected to power.

"There is autocracy making its move around the world," Reiner noted. "Should the United States fall, there’s a danger that democratic systems collapse around the world."

Regardless of his strong opposition, Reiner had previously shown "complete revulsion" and denounced violence for political ends unequivocally after the shooting of a different political figure.

A Notable Link: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of historical irony, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the photographer who captured the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once shared the anecdote of the session, mentioning Trump's request for "special hairspray" while posing on a high-rise overlooking Central Park.
