The Denver Nuggets star earned the NBA's Most Valuable Player award in three of the past four years.

Three-time National Basketball Association MVP Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee while the Denver Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 at the Heat.

The Serbian center injured himself late in the first half during an accidental coming together with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.

Jones came down on the foot of the MVP, and he promptly went down to the floor clutching his leg.

The 30-year-old, that is leading the NBA this season in boards and dimes, recorded 21 points and eight assists in the game before incurring the setback.

The player will undergo an MRI on Tuesday to evaluate the extent of the issue.

"Instantly, Jokic realized there was a problem," stated Denver coach Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Whoever who is injured, it's difficult, particularly somebody as talented as him. More information will come on Tuesday."

"We'll move on together. Clearly, at this moment, I'm more worried just about him as a person and the frustration of experiencing a situation like that."
