US Military Executes Lethal Strike in Eastern Pacific, Resulting in 4 Deaths

As stated by a senior military spokesperson, the US military carried out a fatal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, killing four individuals.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a deadly attack on a craft operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. All four male drug traffickers were killed, and no US military forces were injured.”

Context and Recent Actions

The statement comes a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, vowing to increase the military presence.

Only on the previous day, the Pentagon said it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Actions Amid Pressure

The government has faced increasing demands to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have refused to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a successful operation, saying it has prevented drugs from reaching US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the bounds of legal military action.

Although the administration has said the campaign is about stopping drugs destined for the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to confirm a wider political aim. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor said the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”

This suggests the military campaign may be linked to a push to remove Venezuela's current government.
